Glen Manor Ravine

20 x 20 inches, oil on canvas

This commission is actually a portrait of the client's two sons in a nearby ravine. I love how it is the opposite of a formal, posed children's portrait.

Child's Dress

Child's Dress, oil on 14 x 18 canvas.

There is something so evocative about baby clothes ... it may have something to do with how quickly they are outgrown.

Metro 3

"Metro 3," oil on 30 x 24 inch canvas. This is a painting of a station in a subway. It is intended to be dreamlike, to give viewers the feeling that they underground on a dimly-lit train platform.

This is the third subway interior I have painted.

First Blog!

My name is Theresa Maxwell, and I'm a painter living and working in Toronto's Beach neighbourhood. I'm also a mom to two small and very busy little girls, so I've decided to set up a blog to encourage myself to keep painting and also to show people what my work is like. I'll try and post a painting each day.

My style is figurative and traditional, and sometimes verges on impressionistic. I paint a variety of subjects - people, landscapes, interiors and still lifes - whatever catches my eye and looks like fun to paint. Right now I show work at several Toronto-area galleries , including Canvas Gallery, the Redeye Studio Gallery, and XC Art Restoration. For those interested in seeing more of my work, my website www.theresamaxwell.com has lots of examples.
